Madoc - Guitar Duo
Madoc are a guitar-based duo based in North Wales / Cheshire. Paul and Arfon perform up-tempo, feel-good hits spanning 8 decades - drawing influences from the worlds of folk, country, pop and rock.
A chance meeting through their involvement with local choirs brought them together, along with a love of close-harmony singing. The result is a brand-new ensemble for a brand-new Arts Festival!

Haiku – one of the simplest and most accessible poetic forms.
Join poet Christopher Cotton at the Black Lion for an hour’s introduction to this enduring Japanese art form. You will explore what makes a haiku, write your own, and perhaps even share your work in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

My Intrepid Flying Grandmother
with Sally Knight
My Grandma was a pilot!
Sally Knight will talk about her book, 'Intrepid Phyl Lewin Pioneering Aviator'. In 1937 a two seater aeroplane piloted by Phyl Lewin and her husband Brigadier General A.C. Lewin disappeared over Southern Sudan. This book is the story of Phyl’s life up to this point.

Porthywaen Youth and Training Band
In their distinctive bright red jumpers the Youth and Training Band are a familiar local sight. PYTB are enthusiastic participants in local public events - including the Mere Melodies Christmas Concert and the Oswestry Music Festival.
The Musical Director is Simon Fisher, a local teacher and multi instrumentalist.
Come along and listen to them play a lively selection of band music in the beer garden of the Black Lion
